Who are The Drakes Escape?
We are a married couple in their mid-thirties who have a passion for travel and exploring together. We work hard to play harder and travel to new places every chance we get. This sometimes is difficult with the current annual leave in the UK. I (Bec) am the travel researcher and planner for every trip. From scouring the internet for the best tips to booking the cheapest but best hotels and excursions. Mike (hubby) keeps me on track and is the voice of reason. I have often tried to push in an extra day or country and Mike has had to tell me a firm NO.
We live in a beautiful part of the UK, Wales. This small yet epic country is the backbone of our travel. We go on many adventures and getaways on the weekends and between international travel. If you want to learn more about Wales, stick around.
How it all started?
Back in 2007, I was an Erasmus Exchange student living and studying in Finland. I loved every minute and got to explore the vast scenery of the country and also hop over to Russia for a weekend. This woke the travel bug within me and from that point on I researched different places I would like to go to someday. We spent the next few years dreaming of places and trying to travel when we could. We got married in 2013 and honeymooned in Disney World. That was when Mike also caught the bug and from that point on we traveled at every opportunity we got.
Important Question
This is our saying for every trip, throughout and at the end. We ask each other ‘Important Question: Was it worth it?’ This is to remind us that the experience and time spent together are far more important than the money spent. We spend a lot of our hard-earned cash on travelling and sometimes we just need to remind ourselves of our goals and priorities. It also opens up a conversation about the country/city we have visited and whether we would come back and what we would do the same/differently. It’s all about reflection.
The goal
GOAL ONE: We started with the goal of visiting 30 countries before we turned 30. We achieved this back in 2018, visiting Luxembourg for Mikes’s birthday.
GOAL TWO: Visit 50 countries before we are 40 (2028)
GOAL THREE: Visit every continent (Already visited Asia, Europe, and North America)
DREAM GOAL: Visit 100 countries!
